Weeks 1-3: the goal is to build a strong base of sprinting, acceleration and change of direction mechanics along with developing resilience in muscles to be able to perform repeated high power output. The athlete will experience some mental discomfort during this phase as they will be trying new approaches. Quantify their velocity using laser speed gates.
Weeks 4-11: Reinforcing mechanics of sprinting while increasing intensity and volume. Introduce change of direction, reactive speed, advanced plyometrics and resisted running techniques.
Practices will consist of a warm up where we will develop proper running mechanics. A workout period where we will work on top end speed, acceleration, and change of direction. There will also be competition drills where the athletes will perform drills against each other in a 1v1 or team setting.
